Bar Harbor, Maine

One of several towns on Mt. Desert Island, the town of Bar Harbor is 5 minutes from College of the Atlantic. In addition to varied cuisine and shops, the town boasts a variety of activities, inclouding whale-watching, sunset schooner tours of Frenchman’s Bay, kayaking, and even its own museum!

Bar Harbor also boasts Acadia National Park – one of our nation’s greatest treasures. It is a few minutes from the College, and offers fantastic trails for hiking, bicycling and walking, in addition to Echo Lake (swimmable), and Sand Beach (a fantastic beach, but too cold to swim in).

The Island Explorer, a free shuttle bus, stops on campus frequently from early morning until approximately 10:00pm.
(Schedules will be distributed at camp). The Explorer has routes which go to every town on Mt. Desert Island, and as well, several routes that go through Acadia National Park. You may travel with your bike on the Explorer!

Our schedule will permit a 3-hour break (including lunch) during the day, so that students can take advantage of the many fantastic opportunities — from riding up to Acadia National Park, to a hot popover at the famed Jordan Pond Restaurant. If you wish, you may request a boxed lunch to take with you!
