SmJ – PARATY

In March 2012,  adult participants from around the world  – hobbyists, music educators and professional instrumentalists and vocalists — will once again convene in Paraty to immerse themselves in the rich culture of Brazil as they study with master musicians/educators.

Students will be immersed in repertoire-based classes such as the Evolution of Brazilian Music , Brazilian Rhythms, Phrasing & Articulation  Brazilian Percussion, Batucada, and Jazz Improvisation & Harmony. Participation  in daily faculty-led ensembles will culminate in public performances in one or more of Paraty’s many performance venues.

Our daily schedule schedule will run from 10:00am 12:45 pm and 3:45 – 6:30 pm,  with one  ’free’  afternoon to explore the surrounding area. Options will include  a boat trip to magnificent beaches and a jeep trip  into the adjacent rain forest.  Should students wish to take more time to explore Paraty, our schedule will include  afternoon “electives” to provide flexibility.
