ABOUT
Samba Meets Jazz Workshops is dedicated to promoting the study and appreciation of Brazilian Music & Jazz, and to building meaningful bridges between cultures,
Whether you’re an adult hobbyist, a classical player or vocalist seeking to explore new genres, a student seeking to immerse yourself in study, an educator seeking to expand your craft, or a working musician, our program will provide inspiration and a road map for follow-up at home.
Over the past four years, Samba Meets Jazz Workshops has developed a reputation for providing personalized attention, instruction of the highest caliber, and a fun approach to learning! February 2011 marked the launch of Samba Meets Jazz Workshops – Paraty, a historic city (no cars!) located on Brazil’s breathtaking coast where the mountains meet the sea! In March, we will return to Paraty for another magical week!
Last summer we expanded our faculty in Bar Harbor to include pianist/bandleader/composer Arturo O’Farrill, multi-instrumentalist Steve Wilson (sax, flute, clarinet), master percussionists Gilad and Cafe, who joined Amy London and our Artistic Directors Nilson Matta & Roni Ben-Hur. July 2012 will mark our fourth year of Samba Meets Jazz Workshops – Bar Harbor. Hosted by by College of the Atlantic, we are fortunate to enjoy a spectacular setting on Frenchman’s Bay just steps away from Acadia National Park.
We both look forward to new adventures awaiting us in Paraty and Bar Harbor. We hope you’ll join us!
Alice Schiller, Executive Director Luisa Matta, Director of Production – Brazil
