Our 2010 programs, sculpted by Artistic Directors Roni Ben-Hur and Nilson Matta,
will immerse jazz players and vocalists – of all ages, abilities and musical backgrounds – in
a week of personalized instruction at College of the Atlantic, a 37-acre campus overlooking Frenchman’s Bay, minutes from Acadia National Park.
These two internationally acclaimed musicians-bandleaders-composers will be joined by saxophonist Bill McHenry, vocalist Amy London and COA composer-in-residence, John Cooper. Each of our faculty members, in addition to being consummate musicians and performers, are inspired educators who bring contagious joy to the experience.
With our enrollment capped at 30, students have a unique opportunity to hone skills
needed to reach the next “level" and to develop a roadmap for studies at home.
But our students leave with much more. This total immersion, and the opportunity to interact
with our faculty morning to night -- whether in class, at faculty-led jams, concert rehearsals, a lobster bake, or just hangin' -- will enrich students' understanding and approach in ways immeasurable.
The week will be intensive, but at the same time, relaxed, and fun! We’ve built time into the schedule for students to practice, and to take advantage of activities such as biking in Acadia National Park (5 minutes away), kayaking, or enviro-adventures at College of the Atlantic – the “greenest” college in the United States.
We’re excited to share our new website. It's just the beginning - we'll be adding more photos, videos, audio files and news! In the meantime, we think it will give you a lens into SAMBA MEETS JAZZ -2010! And for those unanswered questions, feel free to contact us!
